The discomfort afterwards is similar to an episiotomy, when the perineum is cut during childbirth, because the operation will have affected the perineum as the vagina is attached to the anus by the perineum and it is this that becomes stretched.

The recovery time is around ten days but up to 3 weeks before full healing.

Labial Surgery

The labia minora are the inner lips of the vagina and many women are dissatisfied with theirs. Most are hidden but sometimes larger labia can protrude beyond the outer lips of the vagina and rub against clothing or cause uncomfortable sex.

The operation is carried out by general anaesthetic and the surgeon stitches the remnants of the torn hymen with several dissolvable stitches leaving a small hole for menstruation.

The hymen will stay in place until penetrative sex takes place.
